Till The Stars Go Out

by Squids Out To Sea

/

about

This is the first release from a new duo project between Dave Kerzner and Fernando Perdomo. This song entitled "Till The Stars Go Out" was based on Fernando's instrumental song "Zebra Crossing" and features additional special guests Robin Schell, Ruti Celli and Kaitlin Wolfberg.

Background behind Squids Out To Sea:

Dave, aka "Squids", was inspired by Fernando's progressive rock instrumental albums "Out To Sea Vol. 1-3" as well as his Beatles-infused "Zebra Crossing" which Perdomo recorded at the famed Abbey Road Studios in England. One day in 2019 Dave approached Fernando asking him what he thought about the idea of him writing lyrics and singing to his instrumental tracks. Fern loved the idea and that's how this project was born! A new songwriting approach building upon their years working together with the Dave Kerzner Band, Sonic Elements tribute albums and more!

This song features special guest Robin Schell joining Dave and Fernando for a vocal extravaganza that tips a hat to so many classic bands from the 60s, 70s and 80s such as The Beach Boys, 10cc, ELO, Queen, Supertramp and, of course, The Beatles. It includes the original string section of Zebra Crossing with Ruti Celli on cello and Kaitlin Wolfberg on violin.

Till The Stars Go Out
(Lyrics by Dave Kerzner)
(Music by Fernando Perdomo)

Pt. 1: Upon A Time

Upon a time
Out of the blue
Hearts made of hands from me and from you
Two peas in a pod
A magical pair
We laughed till we cried while walking on air
Making up words
We’d playfully scheme
Partners in rhyme
The ultimate team
And I heard you say
You loved me more
Then I watched you walk out the door
Ooh Ooh
Why
Ooh Ooh
But why
Why’d you have to change your mind?

Pt2: Something In The Air

There was something in the air
I could feel it on the phone
Your voice was not your own
You said we should be friends
But that meant it was the end
Our time was over too soon
You left me in the car
Rolling in reverse
How suddenly perverse we are
I never knew
Life could be so cruel
Making me a fool for you
But I can keep it cool

Pt 3: Mr. Sunshine

Mr. Sunshine
Everyone likes a smile
Mr. Sunshine
Taking it all with style
Till the stars go out
Mr. Sunshine
Watching them come and go
Mr. Sunshine
Everybody wants to know
Isn’t he, wasn’t she, weren’t they everything seemed to flow
Mr. Sunshine
Everyday’s so surreal
Mr. Sunshine
Holding back how you feel
Live it up, break it up, make it up
Wondering what’s the deal
So, what’s the deal?
What was real?

Pt. 4: Someday

Someday you’ll wake up and realize you’re wrong
And then you’ll see the place where you belong
A love like what’s written in a song
You’ll find that you’ve had it all along
Someday when you’ve seen enough tomorrow
And there’s nothing that compares
You’ll remember there was someone
A man who truly cares

Pt. 5: Life Is Just A Merry-Go-Round

They say life is just a merry-go-round
You say
You can’t get past it
You can’t come back down
They say life is just a merry-go-round
You say
You can’t get past it
You can’t come back down
They say life is just a merry-go-round
Not giving up hope yet I’m not giving up
Till the end of time
Till the stars go out
