When I first started the "Sonic Elements" project in 2011 (it had actually started officially as "Sonik Elementz" in 2005 when we performed with Jon Anderson at the NAMM Show in Anaheim), the concept behind doing tribute albums (even though my main interest was recording original songs and I had just finished co-writing and producing "Dimensionaut" with Simon Collins and Sound of Contact) was to experiment using the drum sample sessions I did for my sound company Sonic Reality and have a variety of special guests play along with a core group of people including my long time friend Billy Sherwood and myself. When we worked on a Rush tribute (full version being released soon) we had the luxury of playing with Neil Peart himself via the sample library "Neil Peart Drums" by Sonic Reality. In addition to doing covers, Billy and I wrote playful original songs to Neil's and other legendary drummers' tracks. "Times Gone" was one of the songs we wrote with lyrics and vocals by Billy. It was a fun creative exercise that yielded some unconventional tracks like this one. - Dave
